Oxford Cowley Road
This is the very first project I did in University. Instead working on development project straightaway, we learnt how to analyse a site first which built a strong base for us get to know how create a vibrant city leading to different projects in the following semster.
What I learnt in this project:
Well being – mapping of the social experience of the area considering key qualities of responsive urban environments – legibility, permeability, variety, vitality, safety etc. This data can be collected through site visits and recorded through annotated maps, images and sketches using the morphological approach.
Use of space and social capital – mapping of how different parts of the road and its public facilities (community halls, places of worship, public parks) and other cultural spaces (venues, informal gathering spaces) are used at different times of the day; the activities that take place in those spaces and the characteristics of the users. Evidence of social capital is collected through collecting information on community facilities, checking noticeboards, local library, looking for groups on facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. We also explored opportunities to talk to different communities on the Cowley road.
